What does God's Word do for our soul?

Hello Friends! I am back from Israel and it was a marvelous and life changing experience! God blessed us with a lot of memories and adventures. We just got back about one month ago. We were in Israel for sixteen days and each one was beyond what I could have even imagined or dreamed of. Just to see where Jesus walked and did His ministry was really amazing. Seeing these Biblical sites brought my walk with the Lord to a whole new level. Seeing these sites mentioned in the Bible brought the Word alive to me! Being in the Promised Land was amazing! God has surely blessed Israel flowing with milk and honey. It is amazing to look at the Scriptures now with a whole new perspective on the Bible. When I read about these sites in the Word of God it is so cool that I can now visualize these places. God is good and He is worthy of all our praise.

The picture above is of sunrise on the Sea of Galilee. This is where Jesus spent most of His ministry and where the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus is the Word and God’s Word should be the center of our lives.

Sometimes in life we are so busy and we forget to look and examine our hearts and our walk with the Lord. We get so caught up that we forget the Lord is looking at our lives. We need to be obediently living our life according to His Word. He is so holy and He deserves all our praise and worship. When we get up in the morning - what are our first thoughts? Do we think about that we need to do to start the day or that I need to spend time with the Lord and see what He has to stay to us this morning. Do we put the radio on or do we spend time worshipping our Father, Creator, and the Alpha and Omega? Do we look at our phones first or do we pray to the Lord who made us fearfully and wonderfully made? Jeremiah 15:16 declares, “When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.” When we start our day off right we find that we are more focused on the Lord and we are filled with the joy of the Lord. The Bible is God’s Words to us. We need to examine our lives and see what our priorities need to be.

We can be so self focused sometimes and we forget that we need to be filling our souls with the Word of God.

Since the Bible is the Word of the all-powerful God, we know that is true and it is alive. It changes our hearts and minds. God’s Word blesses us and brings us closer with Him. We read in Psalm 119:1–2: “How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart.”

God’s Word inspires awe. We see in Psalm 119:161, “My heart stands in awe of Your words.” And in the context of that verse, Your is emphasized. The psalmist is awed by God’s words. He writes in verse Psalm 119:164, “Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous ordinances.” And verse 171 reads, “Let my lips utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes.” God’s Word inspires awe and causes us to pray and to praise him. It brings us into a deep and a rich relationship with Him.

God’s Word causes us to grieve over sin. We all sin, but we are so thankful for God’s amazing grace. Romans 3:23 declares, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Psalm 119:136 says, “My eyes shed streams of water, because they do not keep Your law.” Studying God’s Word sharpens our minds and causes us to see this world and the people in it more as God does.

Why would you not spend your life getting to know the Bible better than you do today? When we spend time studying the Word we learn so much more and it grows our hunger and our relationship with Him. I love how the psalmist puts it in Psalm 119:24: “Your testimonies also are my delight; they are my counselors.” Is the Bible your counselor in your decisions and questions in life? It’s significant that throughout this Psalm, the psalmist both trusts God and asks God to help him trust even more. Would you listen to God if He spoke? He’s speaking to us in His Word. The most amazing thing God gives us through His Word is life! Psalm 119: 50 declares,“Your word has revived me.” Let us spend time in His Word today and seek Him with all our hearts!
