We need to start a fire in our bones for the Word of God. Jeremiah 20:9 says,"But if I say, "I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot." Our passion for Jesus won't stop us from anything. We need to have a zeal for the Word of God that we can't control. Today, we have so many Christians that are lukewarm. They aren't hot and passionate for the Word and they aren't cold. They are in the middle; living both worlds. They go to church and then they are around the wrong kind of people the rest of the week. Parents today aren't doing their job. They aren't training their children in the Lord! We want our children to be strong in the Lord so they don't fall away into the world. Children are not going to be strong in Lord unless parents train their children in the way that they should go. Proverbs 22:6 says,"Train up a child in the way he should go,And when he is old he will not depart from it." That means reading the Word to them, memorizing Scripture, spending time with them, talking to them about the Word, and so much more! If parents don't do that, then we are going to have more young Christians fall into sin. Parents.. bring your children closer to the Lord!
Charles Spurgeon was a preacher in the 1800s. He became a preacher at the age of 16. He had a heart for God. All he wanted to do was share the Good News wherever he went. He would write scripture on a piece of scrap paper and leave it for someone to find. He could have lived" as a king", but lived" for the King" and allowed his riches to be stored up in heaven rather than on earth. He preached ten times a week on average. He had spoken to thousands of people, but he would also preach the Word of God to any group now matter how small. He fought a good fight. He finished the course and he kept the faith. Indeed! Charles Spurgeon sermons and quotes have really touched my heart! Charles Spurgeon once said,"Visit many good books, but live in the Bible." That is what we need to do every morning & night. We need to constantly be in the Word and thinking about Him throughout the day. The only book that is going to quench our soul is God's Word. The Bible is the only book that waters our soul, because all other books are written by men. We are plants and every morning and night we need to be watered with the Word. When we are being watered we feel alive, fresh, and renewed! Proverbs 25:25 says,"Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is the good news from a far country.” Let's be thirsty for God's revitalizing Word!
I encourage you the rest of the week to examine your walk with the Lord and see if you are passionate for the Lord or lukewarm. The Lord declares in Revelation 3:16,"But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." We need to have a fuel and love for the Word of God! We need to be hungering for God's Word. We need to be wanting more and more! We need to be like at train. We need to have coal to keep going on the track. God's Word is our coal! We don't want to stop all of a sudden and stay there. Just like in our walk with the Lord, we don't want to stay where we are. We want to keep learning and getting deeper!! Let's have the coal to make the train roll! Let's keep rollin along with the Lord!
